Auctioneer & Owner David Jacob

David grew up in the auction business. Ever since he was able to crawl into the truck with his dad on his own, he was going to auction sales. He knew that that was what he wanted to do when he grew up. So, at 13 years old, he got a start. The auctioneer who was supposed to be selling the second ring that day was stuck in construction and people were getting impatient. Young Dave went and asked his dad if he could start selling and his dad said no, but that’s not what Dave heard. He thought he heard “okay”. He started selling and was able to sell twice that week but his parents had other ideas and he wasn’t able to grab a mic again until he was 15 years old. It was that year that Dave won the the Auctioneers Association of Ontario Champion Novice Auctioneer Award at their convention in Kingston.

He never did attend auction school, but instead chose to pursue a post secondary education in Agriculture. Dave attended Ridgetown College and graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture, as well as an award for  the student with the best care and conduct.

Following graduation from Ridgetown, he attended Olds College in Olds, Alberta where he obtained his Bachelors of Applied Science Degree in Ag. Business. Dave came back to Ontario where he worked the next five years with a government agency who administered financial support programs for farmers and sold auction sales as a sideline.

In 2009, Dave competed in the Ontario Auctioneering Championship once again. This time it was held in London. Dave was named the Ontario Champion Auctioneer. This was a great honour as it meant that he could join his dad and many other great auctioneers in the ranks as “Ontario Champions”. In 2011, it came time for Dave to make a career decision. He was gainfully employed, but wanted to be more involved in the auction business and so he left his employer and joined his dad in the auction business and Jacob Auctions Ltd. was founded. He has never looked back. Dave now calls over 150 different auctions every year.

Beyond his own auctions, he also contract auctioneers automobile, farm, and horse sales. Dave still enjoys competing when he can and in 2016 was the International Plowing Match’s Auctioneer Champion. He represented Ontario at the Calgary Stampede in 2005, the Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2016 and in Edmonton at the Canadian All Around Auctioneer Championships in 2018. Dave likes to stay involved in his community and is the auctioneer at many charity events throughout the year. He has served the Auctioneers Association of Ontario for over a decade serving in all seats including a term as President. He is currently serving as a Regional Director. Dave is also, currently sitting on the board of directors for McKillop Mutual Insurance in Seaforth, Ontario.
